The Essence of Forgiveness & the 4 Corners Festival: Conversation on Sunday Sequence

It’s the first day of the annual 4 Corners Festival. This year’s Festival theme is ‘Scandalous Forgiveness.’ On Sunday, I was part of a conversation on ‘The Essence of Forgiveness’ on BBC Radio Ulster’s Sunday Sequence.

Rev David Clements, whose father was murdered by the IRA, and Dr Geraldine Smyth OP from Trinity College Dublin, and I discussed forgiveness with an emphasis on the relationships between forgiveness, reconciliation, and ‘dealing with the past’ in Northern Ireland.

During the conversation, we explored how forgiveness means different things to different people, Christian perspectives on forgiveness, individual and collective expressions of forgiveness, the need to create space for lament, and more.

You can listen to the full conversation below.

The conversation is a useful starting point for issues that will be raised during the Festival events. Check out the full programme here.
